I have read two articles like this of people who have lost data with Outlook 2011. If you have IMAP it might be worth using. If you have POP mail, I would strongly suggest backing up your information daily.

The Eclectic Rant. Outlook has Crashed with Error 255 – Warning to all: Stay AWAY From Outlook If you followed my previous attempts to flee Entourage for a faster, safer and more current email program, you may remember that I have tried and liked Postbox 2, but was not sold on it because of the complex manner it stores emails online and on the local computer, as well as for it’s potential for hangs.  I reluctantly reverted to Entourage, with all … Read More

The OP figured it out himself.  Good work.

Finally figured it out myself after trying many combinations of things. In Home>Mail>Mailboxes, I deleted the whole folder for the account (IMAP-myaddress@imap.gmail.com) as well as outbox.mbox. A FREE Utility to Backup Your Gmail Personally, I am a major player when it comes to using Gmail. I use Gmail as my primary email client (or service provider) instead of using a locally installed client such as Outlook, Windows Live Mail, or Thunderbird.  The only problem with my strategy is that all of my email transactions are stored in the cloud (on the internet) and not on my local computer. To ultimately resolve this problem and to make my strategy whole, I found a FREE backup … Read More
